La localita di Penia è famosa per le inversioni termiche spinte sopratutto nella stagione fredda, in quanto dove è installata la stazione non è presente il sole dal 1 novembre al 15 febbraio. In giornate serene e con calma di vento invernali, si hanno temperature minime 2/3 gradi inferiori rispetto alla alta Val di Fassa (Canazei) e massime anche 7/10 gradi inferiori.
